SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will head to Austin for the Texas Invitational, which will be held Friday-Saturday, April 28-29, at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The Roadrunners will compete against athletes from Houston, Florida State, Rice, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas State, UIW and UTRGV, among others.
The two-day meet will get underway with field events at 11 a.m. Friday, followed by running events at 12:30 p.m. Saturday's action will start with field events at 9:30 a.m., while the first race is slated for 2:20 p.m.
UTSA is coming off another strong showing after winning five events at the J Fred Duckett Twilight last Saturday in Houston.
Mike Roth posted a pair of career-best times to collect two gold medals. The sophomore from St. Thomas, Ontario, won the 400 meters with a time of 45.95 seconds. He returned to the track to cross first among collegiate sprinters and second overall in the 200m with a 20.98 clocking.
Dylan James collected his first win as a Roadrunner in the triple jump, as the junior transfer from Arizona State skipped to a mark of 15.64 meters (51-3.75) to lead a 1-2 finish. He was named Conference USA Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for his performance.
Ingeborg Gruenwald picked up her third long jump victory of the outdoor season, as the junior All-American from Austria leaped 6.23m (20-5.25) on her first attempt of the day and held on for the win.
Sigrid Kleive was the top collegian in the high jump and second overall with a clearance of 1.72m (5-7.75).
The Texas Invitational will mark the final tune-up for the Roadrunners before they travel to Denton for the C-USA Outdoor Championships on May 11-14.
The UTSA men boast 28 marks that currently rank in the top eight on the latest conference descending order list, including league leaders in Roth in the 400m (45.95), Jack Turner in the long jump (7.79m/25-6.75) and Jemuel Miller in the triple jump (16.08m/52-9.25).
The women have 22 top-eight marks in C-USA with Alanah Yukich pacing the league in the 400m hurdles (57.61) and Gruenwald leading the circuit in the long jump (6.23m/20-5.25)
