TEXARKANA, Ark. — The UTSA men's golf team wrapped up play Wednesday at the Conference USA Championship by finishing eighth behind a top-20 showing from Hunter Bott at Texarkana Country Club (par 72/6,969 yards).
The Roadrunners posted a 54-hole total of 897 after rounds of 298, 299 and 300 this week, finishing four shots ahead of WKU and 19 in front of UTEP, while ending up only three behind a tie for sixth between Florida Atlantic and Rice.
Bott tied for 18th place as the top Roadrunner, finishing the tournament at 6-over-par 222. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, carded three consecutive 74s with his final scorecard headlined by four birdies. Starting on No. 10, he opened with back-to-back pars before writing down a four on the 555-yard, par-5 12th hole. He added another birdie on the 17th and ended up with a 37 on the back side. He also posted birdies on both par fives on the front as part of a 37 on that side, tallying eight birdies for the event.
David Harrison turned in UTSA's low score on Wednesday with a 1-over 73 that featured four birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 8-9, as he led the Roadrunners with 11 for the tournament. After opening with rounds of 76 and 77, the senior from Trophy Club, Texas, moved up 10 spots on the final day into a tie for 27th at 10-over 226.
Christian Fanfelle was two shots behind Harrison in a tie for 32nd at 12-over 228. The super senior from San Antonio wrapped up the week with a 76 that was highlighted by birdies on the 15th and 16th holes.
Jack Wehman grabbed a share of 35th with a 229. The sophomore from Austin opened with a 73 and then posted a two-shot improvement from his second-round 79 with a 77 on Wednesday that included three birdies on the back nine.
Brayden Bare opened the event with a 78 on Monday and then Patrick Kahanek moved into the lineup to register a 71 on Tuesday followed by an 82 today.
Charlotte (872), Middle Tennessee (873), Louisiana Tech (876) and North Texas (878) placed in the top four to advance to Thursday's match play semifinals.
James Swash of Louisiana Tech claimed individual medalist honors with a 2-under 214 (75-71-68).
