UTSA to face UIW in cross-town rematch on Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team (7-32) is back in San Antonio this entire week, but will head across town for a rematch at Incarnate Word (13-23-1), Tuesday afternoon at H-E-B Field. The non-conference tilt between the Roadrunners and Cardinals is slated for a 5:00 p.m. first pitch and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.

UTSA Quick Hits

  • The Roadrunners split games with Western Kentucky their last time in San Antonio during a rain-drenched Conference USA series.
  • Last week, the Roadrunners were in Ruston, Louisiana to face Louisiana Tech. Despite the fact that UTSA's pitchers delivered a 0.97 ERA on the weekend and allowed only .181 hitting from the Lady Techsters, UTSA still suffered a road series sweep.
    • UTSA's pitchers allowed just five (5) runs and 13 hits across three games with a score trio of 1-0, 3-0, 1-0 (10 inn.).
    • Sunday's heartbreaker in extra innings saw junior Jamie Gilbert toss a career-long 7.1 innings, allowing a single run on four (4) hits, striking out a season-high seven (7) strikeouts.
    • On Saturday, freshman Reagan Smith held a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but the Lady Techsters got the best of her late – as she pitched 5.1 innings with two (2) earned runs on three (3) hits and three walks.
    • Across the three-game series, UTSA batted .176 with 15 hits but no runs.
  • Junior shortstop Kat Ibarra continues to be the pacesetter for UTSA's offense, leading in BA (.362), hits (47), runs (26), slugging percentage (.531), on-base percentage (.443), doubles (11), triples (4), walks (19) and stolen bases (6) – On defense, Ibarra has a team-high 56 assists (with 69 putouts), 10 double plays and has delivered the tag on seven (7) caught-stealing plays.
  • Super senior Marena Estell leads the Roadrunners with 23 RBI while batting .286 with 13 runs and 28 hits, including five (5) doubles and four (4) home runs.
  • Junior transfer Taylor Jensen paces the team with five (5) home runs, batting .295 with 12 runs, four (4) doubles and 16 RBI.
  • Recording 16 total on the year, UTSA ranks 40th in the NCAA with 0.41 double plays per game.
  • Drawing 151 total free passes and 3.87 BB per game, UTSA ranks 17th nationally in walks drawn.
  • Sophomore third baseman Camryn Robillard ties for ninth nationally and first in Conference USA with five (5) sacrifice flies.

Series vs. Incarnate Word
The Roadrunners walked off the Cardinals in the last meeting, as Jensen launched a solo home run to left for the 6-5 victory, Feb. 21st at Roadrunner Field. UTSA holds a 22-7-1 advantage in the 30-game series that dates back to the first month of the Roadrunners program in 1992. UTSA has won five of the last six, but UIW defeated UTSA last year at Roadrunner Field. The Roadrunners have won three straight at H-E-B Field.

  • At 13-23-1, the Cardinals are coming off a Southland Conference series victory over Northwestern State, clinched on a walk-off run-ruling during Saturday's finale.
