BRYAN, Texas — Hunter Bott matched his season-best scorecard and Jack Wehman recorded a hole-in-one to headline Monday action for the UTSA men's golf team at The Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club.
Bott fired a 4-under-par 68 in the second round for a six-shot improvement from his opening 74 to settle into a tie for 11th place at 2-under 142, five strokes off the pace of 7-under established by Louisville's Max Kennedy. The senior from nearby Montgomery High School tallied six birdies during his afternoon tour of the 7,227-yard, par-72 layout. Four of those came on a six-hole stretch as part of a 3-under 33 on the back nine and also had back-to-back birdies on Nos. 6-7 to go with three on his first-round card, giving him nine for the day for the third-best total in the field of 76 players. His 68 equaled the 4-under score he logged in the first round of the 2022-23 season at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate last September.
Meanwhile, Wehman aced his second hole of the second round and also posted a pair of birdies en route to a 74 in the afternoon after leading all Roadrunners in the morning with a 72 on the strength of four birdies. After a par on his second visit to No. 10, the sophomore from Austin Vandegrift High School recorded a hole-in-one on the 182-yard, par-3 11th. He added birdies on the 14th and 9th holes — which both measured 439 yards — to move into a tie for 31st at 2-over 146.
David Harrison has a share of 53rd place at 6-over 150. The senior from Trophy Club, Texas, bounced back from a 77 with a 73 that featured a trio of birdies.
Christian Fanfelle and Patrick Kahanek round out the UTSA lineup in 65th (78-76—154) and 74th (79-80—159), respectively, while Brayden Bare is part of the tie for 65th (77-77—154) while playing as an individual.
The Roadrunners are in 13th place in the team standings at 16-over 592, logging a 10-stroke improvement in the second round with a 291 to move to within three shots of Memphis and eight of the top 10.
No. 33 Louisville leads the team race at 20-under 556, followed by No. 15 Texas A&M (-9), No. 38 TCU (-7), 234th-ranked Baylor (+2) and Little Rock (+4) in the top five.
The final round is slated for Tuesday.
