SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's tennis was listed at 41st in this week's ITA Division I Men's National Team Computerized Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, marking the seventh consecutive week that the Roadrunners appear in the national rankings. For UTSA, it is also the sixth straight week that the Roadrunners are ranked among the national top 50 – a critical standard in determining the postseason championships field of teams.
In addition, the Roadrunners are on the verge of matching win totals with the most-successful modern team, the 2014-15 UTSA squad that went 17-9, swept their way to a Conference USA Championship and made the last program appearance in the NCAA Championships. At 16-4, UTSA's only losses have come against ranked opponents: current No. 1 Texas, No. 39 Oklahoma, No. 26 UC Santa Barbara and No. 50 SMU. The setback to SMU on Feb. 12 was the last loss on record for the Roadrunners, since reeling off 14 consecutive victories for the longest winning streak in program history.
With Temple's streak-breaking loss to No. 61 Penn on Wednesday, UTSA assumes control of the national top spot – the Roadrunners' 14-match win streak is the longest active win streak in NCAA Division I men's tennis.
"It's been a great season for us so far and it's definitely a great feeling to write history and stay in the rankings for that long," fourth-year head coach Sergey Avdeyev said. "Our team is hungry for more work and more success."
Sitting atop the Conference USA standings, the Roadrunners next take the court on April 8 in Houston against 66th-ranked Rice. UTSA and Rice will battle at the Owls' George R. Brown Tennis Center, the same facility hosting the C-USA Championships, Friday, April 21 to Sunday, April 23.
