Czumbel earns third-straight C-USA All-Academic Team honors

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA senior guard Erik Czumbel has been selected to the five-man Conference USA All-Academic Team in a voting of the league's academic advisors, it was announced. Czumbel has now been named to the C-USA All-Academic team in each of the last three seasons.

Czumbel, a native of Verona, Italy, sports a 3.96 cumulative grade point average as a double major in economics and finance. He was also honored by the league on the All-Academic Team in both of the last two seasons.

A 6-foot-3 guard, Czumbel has played in 117 games with 49 starts in his four-year career, averaging 4.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He owns a career 211-123 assist-turnover ratio, has made 32.6 percent of his 3-pointers, a total of 75, and shot 71.2 percent from the free-throw line.

As a senior in 2022-23, Czumbel averaged 2.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, appearing in 28 of the 30 games.

Czumbel is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient as well as a three-time C-USA Academic Honor Roll honoree. Czumbel has earned as many All-Academic accolades as one can, as freshmen are ineligible for the award.

Czumbel joins both Kurt Attaway (05-07) and Devin Gibson (09-11) as three-time All-Academic honorees. Both Attaway and Gibson received their honors when UTSA was a member of the Southland Conference.

Overall, Czumbel is in rare air as he is just one of six Roadrunners to ever be recognized with a conference All-Academic honor. He joins the aforementioned Attaway and Gibson, as well as Joey Shank (2009), Igor Nujic (2012) and Jeromie Hill (2012-13).
