The UTSA men debuted at No. 28 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Week 1 National Track & Field Rating Index. This marks the Roadrunners' highest ranking since appearing at No. 26 in week three of the 2014 season. Earlier that year, they were a program-best 22nd in back-to-back weeks to start the campaign. Additionally, it stands as the men's sixth-highest rating all-time since the system debuted in 2008.
The UTSA men are ranked No. 6 in the USTFCCCA South Central Regional team rankings this week, behind Texas A&M, LSU, Baylor, Texas and Rice and ahead of No. 7 TCU, No. 8 Texas State and 11th-ranked Houston, among others.
The Roadrunners are coming off a strong showing at the Charles Austin Classic last weekend in San Marcos, Texas. UTSA tallied seven wins and 17 top-three finishes during the two-day meet at the Texas State Track & Field Complex, with the women claiming four gold medals and nine podium showings and the men adding three victories and eight top-three performances.
Alanah Yukich won the women's 400m hurdles with a season-best 57.78 clocking and joined Geraldy Barron, Marie Duvigneau and Ibiso David-West for a winning time of 3:43.42 in the 4x400m relay. Thennelle Williams sped to gold in the 100m in 11.86, while Marilis Remmel tossed the javelin 45.35m (148-9) to remain undefeated this season.
Three Roadrunners registered their first collegiate wins for the men. Jacob Jenkins skipped to a mark of 15.00 meters (49-2.5) in the triple jump and was named Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week, Landon Blankenship raced to victory in the 3,000m steeplechase with a 9:34.20 clocking and Michael Paredes recorded a time of 4:00.72 for first in the 1,500m.
