NEW ORLEANS — The UTSA men's track & field team has debuted at No. 28 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Week 1 National Track & Field Rating Index.
The Roadrunners earned 80.01 points, right behind No. 27 BYU (80.96) and fewer than three points shy of 25th-ranked Northern Arizona (82.93) in the first weekly rating.
This marks UTSA's highest ranking since appearing at No. 26 in week three of the 2014 season. Earlier that year, the Roadrunners were a program-best 22nd in back-to-back weeks to start the campaign. Additionally, it stands as the men's sixth-highest rating all-time since the system debuted in 2008.
UTSA has tallied most of its points in the triple jump, as sophomore All-American Jemuel Miller and junior transfer Jacob Jenkins currently rank second (16.03 meters/52-7.25) and third (15.77m/51-9), respectively, on the latest national list for a total of 57.56 points.
Additionally, All-American Christiaan Le Roux stands 13th in the long jump with a season-best leap of 7.60m (24-11.25), while Gabriel Binion and Jacob Jenkins are 26th (7.48m/24-6.5) and 41st (7.37m/24-2.25) in that event.
The Roadrunners also have displayed depth in the sprints so far this season with six times that rank in the top 50 nationally.
Brice Chabot ranks 15th in the 200 meters with a 20.76 clocking, while the 4x100m relay team of Antony Ma, Chabot, Trevion McCalla and Dennis Phillips stands 20th with a 39.94 turned in at the UTSA Invitational on March 18.
Phillips is 21st in the 100m with a season best 10.32, with Chabot and McCalla close behind in 32nd (10.37) and 35th (10.38).
Mike Roth owns the 43rd-best time in the 400m in 2023 with his 46.96 registered on a cold and windy Saturday at the UTSA Invitational.
Minnesota tops the first weekly rating index with LSU, California, Harvard and Texas A&M rounding out the top five.
The UTSA men also debuted at No. 6 in the USTFCCCA South Central Regional team rankings this week, behind Texas A&M, LSU, Baylor, Texas and Rice and ahead of No. 7 TCU, No. 8 Texas State and 11th-ranked Houston, among others.
The Roadrunners will travel to Austin for the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this Wednesday-Saturday, March 29-April 1, at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
