UTSA falls to Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UTSA women's tennis concluded its weekend in the Palmetto State as the Roadrunners fell to Charleston Southern, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners had an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. Although the duo of Stanislava Bobrovnikova and Adeliya Mukhutdinova fell, 6-2, to the Bucs' Noa Boyd/Amila Jusufbegovic at the No. 3 spot, the top two courts rallied to win the doubles point for UTSA.

Fatima Gutierrez and Alexandra Weir won their doubles court at the second spot, defeating Tiffany Pyritz and Zoe Cauthen by 6-3. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Magda Tuells defeated Charleston Southern's Luiza Fullana/Khyanna Singh by 6-2 at the No. 1 spot.

The doubles point would be the only point UTSA won in this matchup though. The Bucs took the fifth, fourth, second and third courts in that order to secure the win for Charleston Southern.

Mukhutdinova fell to the Bucs' Marina Skegro at the fifth spot by set scores of 6-0 and 6-3 to tie the match up at 1-1. Charleston Southern then took the 2-1 lead as Tuells fell to Cauthen at the fourth spot, both sets of 6-3.

Gutierrez fell to Jusufbegovic at the No. 2 court by 7-5 and 6-0. Lastly, Weir fell to Boyd at the third court by 6-4 and 7-6 (1) as UTSA dropped a 4-1 contest against Charleston Southern on Sunday.

UTSA's record falls to 11-8 overall, while Charleston Southern's record improves to 10-5.

UP NEXT: The Roadrunners return home to host  Prairie View A&M on March 24 at 10 a.m. at UTSA Tennis Center.
