SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis is back in action this weekend, first facing in Rice in Houston on Friday at 11 a.m. The Roadrunners then return home to host UT-Arlington at the UTSA Tennis Center on Sunday at 1 p.m.
UTSA holds a 8-5 record after splitting a doubleheader at home last Saturday, including a 4-3 win over Northwestern State and 4-3 loss to UIW. Aleksandra Zlatarova (10-3) and Lexie Weir (10-2) have been truly dominant in singles play with 10 wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively, to lead the Roadrunners. Zlatarova has a team-high eight wins in doubles action, playing alongside Weir, Fatima Gutierrez and Magda Tuells at the top spot.
The Owls have a 4-4 record after a 7-0 win over Sam Houston on Feb. 25. Rice has a 9-0 lead over UTSA in the all-time series. The teams last played on April 21, 2022, when the Roadrunners fell to the Owls, 4-0, in the first round of the C-USA Championships last season. Maria Budin leads the Owls with a 6-2 singles record, playing at the third, fourth and fifth spots.
The Mavericks have a 6-1 record after a 7-0 win over Collin College on Feb. 26. UT Arlington has a 15-1 advantage over UTSA in the all-time series. UTSA and UT Arlington last played each other on April 11, 2021, when the Roadrunners fell to the Mavericks, 4-3. UT Arlington's No. 1 singles player Liz Chileno has a perfect 5-0 record. Chileno also has a 5-1 record in doubles action, alongside teammates Tara Gorinsek and Sarina Reinertsen.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners host two straight C-USA matches at the UTSA Tennis Center in a couple weeks, hosting North Texas on March 11 and WKU on March 13.
