SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis team heads to the Houston area for two more road matches this weekend, opening it up on Saturday against Lamar at 1 p.m. (CT) in Houston. The Roadrunners then face Sam Houston on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Huntsville, Texas.
The Roadrunners are ready to get back into action after their match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday due to inclement weather. UTSA is coming off a weekend sweep, defeating UTEP, 4-3, on Jan. 27 and New Mexico State, 4-2, on Jan. 28. The Roadrunners' No. 1 and 2 singles players, Aleksandra Zlatarova and Lexie Weir each have a 3-1 record, making phenomenal progress at the top two spots. Zlatarova has a 3-1 record at the No. 1 doubles spot with teammates Weir and Fatima Gutierrez.
The Cardinals have a 1-3 record to start the season, falling in their Jan. 28 match to North Texas, 6-1. UTSA and Lamar last played each other on April 10, 2022, when the Roadrunners defeated the Cardinals, 4-3. Lamar's No. 1 player Femke Tjon-A-Joe has a 0-3 record so far, also putting together a 0-2 record at the first doubles spot with partner Noelia Lorca.
The Bearkats have a 2-2 record to begin the 2023 campaign, falling to Texas State on Jan. 27 by a final score of 4-3. UTSA and Sam Houston last played each other on Jan. 30, 2022, when the Roadrunners defeated the Bearkats, 4-3. The Bearkats' No. 1 player Megan Basson has a perfect 4-0 record at the top spot. She has played with teammate Paula Cerda at the No. 1 doubles spot, earning a 3-1 record together.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners host their first weekend of home matches next week, hosting Tarleton State on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. and Texas State on Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
