LAS VEGAS – The UTSA women's tennis team ended their weekend in Las Vegas on a good note, defeating Kansas City by 4-1 on Sunday at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex.
After the duo of Aleksandra Zlatarova and Magda Tuells opened up doubles play with a 6-4 win over the Roos' Michela Xibilia and Laura Munoz-Baroja at the top spot, the second two courts lost their matches as Kansas City won the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead. Stanislava Bobrovnikova and Eva Beyebach fell to Kansas City's Kate Miley and Joanna Cardona by 6-3 at the second court. Then, Alexandra Weir and Adeliya Mukhutdinova fell to Eva Kresovic and Catherine Chrobak by 7-6 (6) at the third spot.
Down by 0-1 after losing the doubles point, the Roadrunners rallied to win four straight singles point and secure the win. Zlatarova began singles play with a victory over the Roos' Xibilia at the No. 1 court by set scores of 6-3 and 6-0. Tuells followed this as she defeated Miley at the fourth spot by both set scores of 6-2. Weir then defeated Kansas City's Chrobak at the No. 2 court by 6-2 and 6-4. At the No. 5 spot, Bobrovnikova secured the 4-1 UTSA win over Kansas City as she beat Cardona by set scores of 7-6 (1) and 6-2.
UTSA's record improves to 7-4 overall, while Kansas City falls to a 4-7 record.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners return home to host a pair of matches next Saturday, Feb. 25. UTSA will host Northwestern State at 10 a.m., before hosting UIW at 4 p.m.
