LAS VEGAS – The UTSA women's tennis team opened up its weekend in Las Vegas with a 4-1 win over Utah Tech at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday.
The duo of Aleksandra Zlatarova and Fatima Gutierrez opened up doubles play with a 6-0 win at the No.1 court over the Trailblazers' Rachel Mellor/Annemiek Sterk. Alexandra Weir and Adeliya Mukhutdinova made quick work of Alysha Damron and Raquel Roshak with a 6-0 win to secure the Roadrunners the doubles point.
The Trailblazers evened the score at 1-1 as UTSA's Gutierrez retired in the first set at the No. 4 singles spot to give the point to Sterk. The Roadrunners earned their first singles point and retook the 2-1 lead as Weir defeated Ya-Chin Hsu at No. 2 spot with set scores of 6-1 and 6-3. Stanislava Bobrovnikova earned her first singles win of the season, defeating the Trailblazers' Damron at the fifth spot with both set scores of 6-2. Zlatarova secured the clinching point at the top spot, defeating Mellor by sets of 6-1 and 7-5, leading UTSA to a 4-1 win over Utah Tech.
UTSA's record improves to a 6-3 overall, while Utah Tech falls to a 0-6 record.
