UTSA falls to the undefeated UNLV Rebels

LAS VEGAS – The UTSA women's tennis team lost a heartbreaker, 4-3, to undefeated UNLV on Saturday at Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas. 
 
The Roadrunners got out to a hot start by winning the doubles point. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Magda Tuells opened up doubles play with a 6-1 win over UNLV's Zita Kovacs and Aura Fang at the top spot. Then, Alexandra Weir and Adeliya Mukhutdinova defeated the Rebels duo of Nina Zdravkovic and Salsa Aher by 7-5 at the third court to secure the doubles point for UTSA. 
 
Zlatarova won the top court by opponent retirement from UNLV's Molly Helgesson to give UTSA a 2-0 lead. The Rebels earned their first point at the third court as Mukhutdinova fell to Aher by both set scores of 6-1. UNLV then evened the score at 2-2 as Stanislava Bobrovnikova fell to the Rebels' Coco Zhao at the third court, 1-6 and 2-6. The Roadrunners retook the 3-2 lead as Weir defeated Kovacs at the No. 2 court by set scores of 6-3 and 7-6 (4). Once again, the Rebels evened the score at 3-3 as Magda Tuells fell to Cindy Hu at the fourth spot, 5-7 and 6-1. Battling at the last court, Eva Beyebach took the Rebels' Fang to three sets. After Fang won the first set by 6-4, Beyebach battled to win the second set by 6-2 and take it to a third set. Fang had the upperhand in the final set (6-1) as UTSA fell to UNLV, 4-3, on Thursday. 
 
UTSA's record falls to 6-4 overall, while UNLV stays undefeated with a 5-0 record.
