Roadrunners advance to championship of weekend tournament

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Roadrunners tennis program swept its two games of action on Friday as a part of the H-E-B Tournament of Champions, downing Oral Roberts (5-0) and Radford (4-1) to advance to the championship round tomorrow afternoon.
 
The Roadrunners (4-4) will face off with Louisiana (6-3) in the championship match. The Ragin' Cajuns defeated both New Mexico State and tournament-host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on their way to the championship bout.
 
Match One: Oral Roberts
In the first match of the day, UTSA took on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. The Roadrunners struck first, earning the doubles point thanks to consecutive victories from both Jackson Ross/Garrett Skelly (6-2) and Tomas Pinho/Miguel Alonso (6-2) to secure the doubles point. UTSA's nationally ranked duo of Alan Magadan/Sebastian Rodriguez did not finish their match due to the Roadrunners already claiming the point.
 
During the singles portion, UTSA continued to roll, earning four victories and claiming the match, 5-0. Magadan downed Gustavo Pinho (6-3, 6-2) while UTSA's Pinho defeated Ezequiel Monferrer  (6-4, 6-1). Skelly beat Kevin Leuenberger (6-1, 6-2) and Ross took down Aaron Brewer (6-1, 6-0). Both Rodriguez and Danijal Muminovic saw their matches go unifinished.
