SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio has proclaimed February 10 as "UTSA 210 Day." The day celebrates the rapid rise of UTSA Athletics' programs that boast a combined 80 conference championships and 60 NCAA postseason appearances, the "Let's Go 210" ("two-one-O") rally cry that fills the stands and the strong bond between UTSA Roadrunners and San Antonio, which is largely in the 210 area code.
Today's event took place on the City Hall front steps. Mayor Ron Nirenberg kicked off the event at 2:10 p.m., welcoming audience members and sharing enthusiasm for UTSA's success.
Nirenberg then welcomed to the stage UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Athletics Director Lisa Campos, who expressed her gratitude for the city's recognition of UTSA Athletics' programs.
UTSA Vice President for University Relations Teresa Niño, UTSA Athletics coaches, UTSA Cheer and Rowdy also took part in the city celebration.
San Antonio's "UTSA 210 Day" celebration comes on the heels of a proclamation by the Bexar County Commissioners Court, which named February 10 "UTSA 210 Day." The County made the announcement earlier this week, at an event that featured County Judge Peter Sakai reading the proclamation.
Both proclamations speak to the pride that both Bexar County and San Antonio have for the UTSA Roadrunners, which are enjoying success both on the field and in the classroom.
In November, UTSA Soccer made a historic surge through the Conference USA Tournament to capture its first league title and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010.
A month later, UTSA Football capped an incredible 10-game winning streak with a 48-27 victory over rival North Texas to earn its second consecutive Conference USA championship trophy.
UTSA student-athletes currently own an average team GPA of 3.27, a department record, with 61.5% of the 372 student-athletes maintaining a 3.0-or-greater G.P.A. Fourteen of UTSA's sports programs currently boast a 3.0-plus GPA and the department also set another standard with an 87% Graduation Success Rate in the latest report from the NCAA.
This July, the Roadrunners will make the move from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference—a jump that will shine a larger national spotlight on UTSA and the San Antonio community.
