Roadrunners announce 2023 softball schedule

SAN ANTONIO – Heading into the 10th season with Head Coach Michelle Cheatham leading the Roadrunners, UTSA softball announced a 53-game schedule for the 2023 season on Friday, includes a home tournament and 21 home games at Roadrunner Field.

"We are ready to get going this spring with this year's team," Cheatham said. "They have worked extremely hard this offseason and are an exciting group to watch play the game. I believe this year's non-conference schedule gets us prepared for C-USA play, as well as giving us the opportunity to go against some future AAC (American Athletic Conference) opponents as well."

UTSA will open the 2023 campaign with four consecutive tournaments over the first month of its 13-week regular season, accounting for 21 contests of the 53-game schedule. The Roadrunners will also play 21 home dates, including home sets for 4-of-8 Conference USA series on the year.

Opening week is slated for Feb. 9-11 as the Roadrunners kick off the year in Hunstville, Texas at the Bearkat Softball Complex, facing a five-game draw against host Sam Houston, South Dakota State, Northwestern State and Delaware at the Bearkat Classic.

The following week, UTSA will serve as host for the I-35 Tournament presented by Courtyard Marriott at The Rim in the friendly confines of Roadrunner Field, scheduled for non-conference tilts against Abilene Christian, Lamar, New Mexico State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from Feb. 16-19.

A short trek up I-35 to San Marcos closes out February with five games of tournament action at Bobcat Softball Stadium, meeting Texas State, UT Arlington, Kansas and Colorado State in the Texas State Tournament, Feb. 23-26.

Finishing off the month-long tournament stretch, UTSA will take on its most long-distance trip of the non-conference schedule, heading to Memphis for the Blues City Classic at the Tigers Softball Complex, squaring up with North Dakota State, host Memphis, SIU Edwardsville and Drake, March 3-5.

The Roadrunners will knock out the remaining non-conference games in one-off contests throughout the season, including home matchups with UIW (Feb. 21), Texas State (March 22) and Houston Christian (April 4), as well as road contests at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Feb. 28), Tarleton State (March 14), Baylor (March 29), UIW (April 18) and 2022 Women's College World Series Runner-up Texas (April 26).

Conference play opens March 10-12 for the Roadrunners at home on Roadrunner Field with a three-game series against UTEP. The C-USA schedule alternates home and road for UTSA, next traveling to Denton, Texas for a three-game set at reigning Conference USA Champion North Texas, March 17-19 at the Mean Green's Lovelace Stadium.

Back on the road for UTSA from March 31-April 2 with the lone road swing beyond the Central Time Zone, heading to Miami to face the FIU Panthers at FIU Softball Stadium, then returning home the following week to meet Western Kentucky, April 6-8. After taking on the Lady Toppers, the Roadrunners travel to Ruston, La. for the Louisiana Tech series, April 14-16 at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field.

The UAB Blazers come to San Antonio for a three-game series, April 21-23, then UTSA heads out to its final road series of the regular season in Murfreesboro, Tenn. at Middle Tennessee State, April 28-30.

Senior Weekend is scheduled for May 5-7 in the final series, hosting the FAU Owls at Roadrunner Field in the final games of the 2023 regular season.

The league tournament is slated to take place in Ruston, Louisiana on May 10-13.
