UTSA completes weekend sweep with win over NM State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UTSA women's tennis team earned a weekend sweep, complete with a 4-2 win over New Mexico State on Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Roadrunners went down early after being swept in doubles action. UTSA lost the third doubles court due to not being able to field players. At the No. 1 court. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Alexandra Weir fell to the Aggies' duo of Anna Pinaieva and Liza Zhu by a score of 6-0. Then, Magda Tuells and Fatima Gutierrez fell to New Mexico State's Miranda Bishard and Bella Nguyen at the second court, 6-4.
 
The Aggies went up 2-0 as UTSA lost the sixth spot due to having no player to compete. From here, the Roadrunners went to work to win four of the other five singles points. At the top spot, Zlatarova battled with the New Mexico State's Pinaieva, winning by set scores of 6-3 and 6-0. Eva Beyebach defeated NM State's Dora Kurdi by set scores of 6-3 and 6-2 at the fifth court to tie match score at 2-2. At No. 2, Weir took down the Aggies' Zhu by 6-4 and 6-3 to give UTSA the 3-2 advantage. Playing at the fourth spot, Tuells won her first set over NM State's Bishard, 6-2. The two then went to a second set tie breaking situation in which Tuells won by 7-6 (3) to lead the Roadrunners to a 4-2 win over the Aggies in Las Cruces, N.M.
 
The Roadrunners improve to an even 2-2 record, while the Aggies fall to a 1-3 record. 
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners head back to the Lone Star State to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m.
