UTSA suffers close loss to ACU

ABILENE, Texas – The UTSA women's tennis team battled with the Wildcats of ACU on Saturday afternoon, but lost 4-3 in Abilene, Texas.
 
In doubles action, the duo of Fatima Gutierrez and Aleksandra Zlatarova played No. 1 doubles ACU's Olivia Sears and Masha Vrsalovic, defeating them by a score of 6-3. The duo of Magda Tuells and Eva Beyebach fell to the duo of Maria Cascos and Maryjoe Crisologo from ACU by a score of 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. The Roadrunners were not able to put together a third doubles team, automatically losing that spot. 
 
In singles play, the Roadrunners were unable to fill the No. 6 spot so they lost that point to go down 0-2. At the No. 2 spot, Alexandra Weir defeated Vrsalovic by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Then, Zlatarova defeated Crisologo at the No. 1 court by scores of 6-2 and 6-0 to even the score at 2-2. The Wildcats then took the 3-2 lead as Cascos defeated Beyebach at the fifth spot, 6-2 and 6-3. Tuells defeated Andrea Guerrero, 6-3 and 6-4, at the No. 4 spot to tie the score once again at 3-3. At the No, 3 court, Gutierrez fell to Sears, 7-5 and 6-4, as UTSA lost the close match to ACU, 4-3.
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners travel to El Paso, Texas, to face UTEP on Jan. 27 at 11 am and New Mexico State on Jan. 28 at 10 am.
