UTSA drops Sunday morning meeting to (RV) Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – The UTSA men's tennis team concluded its opening weekend falling to the (RV) Oklahoma Sooners, 0-7.
 
The Roadrunners (0-2) competed in six singles matches and three doubles matches on Sunday morning, finding themselves matched up against three ranked solo players from the Sooners. Oklahoma (2-0) didn't drop a match on the day, sweeping the Roadrunners and staying undefeated on the year.
 
Doubles
The doubles action began the Sunday competition and the first matchup featured Oklahoma's Baptiste Anselmo/Justin Schlageter against UTSA's Jackson Ross/Miguel Alonso. Anselmo and Schlageter took the match, winning 6-3. The next doubles match featured Nathan Han/Jordan Hasson from OU going up against Garrett Skelly/Tomás Pinho. Again, Oklahoma pulled out the doubles victory, winning 6-4. The final doubles match featured Alex Martinez/Siphos Montsi against UTSA's sixth-ranked pair of Alan Magadan/Sebastian Rodriguez. Magadan and Rodriguez were leading the matchup, winning 4-3, however, it went unfinished with no result.
 
Singles
Following the three doubles matches, six singles matchups began. Oklahoma's singles squad featured three top-65 players which helped power the Sooners to a clean sweep across the singles board. OU's #62 Schlageter defeated Danijal Muminovic (6-2, 6-3) which was followed by Montsi downing Pinho (6-4, 6-4). Next up was Oklahoma's #57 Martinez who beat Torres (6-4, 7-5) and then #50 Han (OU) took down Rodriguez (3-6, 6-1, 6-3). The fifth singles match to conclude featured Oklahoma's Anselmo overcoming Ross in three sets (4-6, 6-0, 6-4). The final matchup featured a back-and-forth affair between Hasson and Magadan where Hasson needed a tiebreaker to win following a competitive third set (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 [7-3]).
 
Up Next
UTSA will have a break before its next action, not again competing until Friday, February 3. The Roadrunners will host New Orleans in what will be the first spring action at the UTSA Tennis Center that Friday with competition beginning at 1 p.m.
