DALLAS — UTSA outside linebacker Trey Moore has landed on the 2022 Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced on Thursday.
Moore is one of 32 first-year players named to the team, and the Smithson Valley High School product is the fourth Roadrunner to be named a Freshman All-American, joining Sincere McCormick (2019 FWAA), Jared Sackett (2017 USA TODAY) and Josiah Tauaefa (2016 FWAA). It also marks the second Freshman All-America honor for Moore, who was named to the College Football News First Team Defense in December.
A redshirt freshman, Moore broke Marcus Davenport's single-season program record for tackles for loss by recording 18 total stops behind the line of scrimmage in 2022. He totaled 59 tackles, eight sacks, six pass breakups, five quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery en route to Conference USA All-Freshman Team and honorable mention all-conference accolades.
Moore logged multiple TFLs in six games, including a season-high 3.5 with a pair of sacks as part of sis total stops in the Cure Bowl versus Troy. He registered 2.5 sacks in the 30-10 road victory over FIU and also had 2.5 TFLs in the 52-24 home triumph over Texas Southern. Moore posted a season-best eight tackles in the 41-38 overtime win at Army and had a pair of stops behind the line, including a sack, in the 44-38 double-overtime victory at UAB.
