SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team will host the Idaho Vandals on Saturday in the sole home athletics event of the week. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. (CT) at the Convocation Center.
LEADING THE ROADRUNNERS
Junior Jordyn Jenkins leads the team in scoring with 107 points, averaging 17.8 per game through six games. Jenkins also leads the team with eight steals. Redshirt sophomore Elyssa Coleman has done a phenomenal job on defense with a team-high 10 blocks (1.67 per game) and 40 rebounds (6.7 per game). Junior Kyra White leads the Roadrunners with 24 assists, also recording seven blocks and seven steals. White is fourth in the conference and 152nd in the nation with a 1.60 assist/turnover ratio. Freshman Sidney Love has earned the starting point guard spot in the first six games, second-most on the team in both assists (17) and points (55).
UTSA is first in the conference with 4.7 blocks per game. The Roadrunners have outperformed their opponents by 225 rebounds to 194 rebounds with a 5.2 rebounding margin.
LAST TIME OUT
The Roadrunners are coming off a close 60-55 loss to Texas State on Nov. 30. Three Roadrunners had double-digit scoring games – Jordyn Jenkins, Sidney Love and Kyra White. Jenkins recorded a team-high 18 points, while recording seven rebounds and a team-high four blocks. Love recorded a career-high 13 points. White matched her career-high with 12 points, also recording seven rebounds, a block, two steals and a team-high four assists. Elyssa Coleman led the team with nine rebounds, including seven on the defensive side.
UTSA led the game with 21 field goals made to Texas State's 19 field goals. The Roadrunners also held the fast break advantage, outscoring the Bobcats with 18 points to 10 points scored on fast break opportunities. UTSA held the lead for 29 minutes and 48 seconds, not allowing a tie score or lead change until Texas State took the lead with nine minutes and 14 seconds left.
SCOUTING THE VANDALS
Idaho has a 2-5 record after a 88-72 loss to Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday. The Vandals were picked to finish third in the preseason Big Sky Conference Coaches' Poll. Beyonce Bea was named to the All-Big Sky preseason team unanimously. The Vandals ended the 2021-22 season with a 14-18 overall record, advancing to the Big Sky Conference Tournament semifinal where they fell to Montana State, 73-67.
Idaho thrives from beyond the arc as the Vandals are ninth in the nation with 29.3 three-point attempts per game and 9.7 three-pointers per game. Idaho has three Bea sisters on its roster, but Beyonce Bea has been the only one to play so far. Bea leads the Vandals in nearly every category with 158 points (22.6 per game), 66 boards (9.4 per game), seven steals and seven blocks. Rosa Smith leads the team with 35 assists, while Tiana Johnson holds the long ball lead with 17 three-pointers.
SERIES HISTORY VS IDAHO
Idaho leads the overall series, 3-0, over UTSA. The Roadrunners and Vandals last played on Feb. 28, 2013, when UTSA fell to Idaho, 65-53.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners head to the other side of the city to face-off with crosstown rival UIW on Dec. 15. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the McDermott Center, the Cardinals' home arena.
