Avdeyev joins the ITA Regional Board

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA head men's tennis coach Sergey Avdeyev has been invited and has accepted a role on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Board and will be one of five members who look over the Texas Regional.

Avdeyev joins fellow Texas collegiate coaches Grant Chen (Chair – SMU), Juan Nunez (Abilene Christian), Michael Woodson (Baylor) and David Roditi (TCU).

When asked about joining the ITA committee, Avdeyev said, "I am very excited to join the Texas Regional Board committee. It's a privilege to serve and represent our region."

An ITA Regional Board committee member has a few different tasks. Board members' responsibilities can range from proposing new ideas to voicing schools' opinions. If the ITA needs to get a feel for the region, it turns to its five-person committees to gauge the pulse. Committee members are also responsible for decisions regarding regional events, including the regional championship.

Avdeyev played a major role in the development and performance of Sebastian Rodriguez and Alan Magadan who were named the sixth best collegiate doubles team after their run through the ITA Regionals and Nationals tournaments. UTSA's pair of Magadan and Rodriguez were one of three schools not from a power five conference to appear in the top 15 nationally ranked teams. UTSA's doubles team is the highest-ranked non-power five team in the country.

The UTSA men's tennis program is set to kick off its 2023 campaign this January as it opens with a road test at Texas on January 20.
