Rowdy River Rally set for Friday night at Arneson River Theatre

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA and the City of San Antonio will hold a Rowdy River Rally this Friday night at the Arneson River Theatre to celebrate the Roadrunners' conference champion football and soccer teams.

The festivities are scheduled to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to line the River Walk and cheer on the football and soccer teams as they float the route from the International Center clockwise around to Arneson River Theatre, where a rally will be held at 7 p.m.

"Join the fun at the Arneson River Theatre as San Antonio celebrates our hometown UTSA Roadrunners at the Rowdy River Rally!" said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. "We have the greatest team with the greatest fans in the greatest city! Celebrate UTSA football and soccer's phenomenal seasons and cheer on UTSA football as they advance to the Cure Bowl."

The UTSA football team captured its second straight Conference USA Championship on Dec. 2 with a 48-27 victory over North Texas. Under the leadership of two-time C-USA Coach of the Year Jeff Traylor, the Roadrunners are 11-2 and ranked No. 22 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll and 25th in the College Football Playoff rankings this week. Riding a 10-game winning streak, they will travel to Orlando, Florida, to face No. 23 Troy in the Duluth Trading Cure Bowl on Friday, Dec. 16. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN and air on Ticket 760 AM. Tickets are available by visiting Ticketmaster.com or calling 210-458-UTSA (8872).

Under the direction of head coach Derek Pittman, the UTSA soccer team earned a spot in the C-USA Tournament for the second consecutive season. After a phenomenal run in which the Roadrunners defeated No. 3 seed UAB, No. 2 seed North Texas and No. 5 seed FAU, the Roadrunners were crowned C-USA champions for the first time in program history. Winning the conference, UTSA earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 12 years, its second appearance in program history. Throughout the season, the team earned rankings in the United Soccer Coaches South Region rankings, climbing as high as No. 5.
