UTSA to host Bethune-Cookman in non-conference finale

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA will wrap up its non-conference schedule tomorrow, December 18, against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in the season's final tune-up for conference play. Sunday's game is scheduled to tip at 3 p.m. and will be streamed on CUSA.tv and broadcast on Ticket 760 AM.

The Roadrunners (5-5) head into the Sunday matinee coming off of a mountain road trip that saw UTSA play at both New Mexico and Utah, both of which are receiving votes in the AP poll. Bethune-Cookman (4-6) will be playing in their second-straight Alamo City contest as the Wildcats lost at UIW on Friday evening.

Following Sunday's game against the Wildcats, UTSA will turn its attention to Conference USA action as the North Texas Mean Green come to the Convocation Center on Thursday, Dec. 22 to kick off conference play.

Leading the Roadrunners
UTSA has been led by its senior big man through ten games of action as Jacob Germany leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Germany, a 2021-22 Conference USA All-Conference Honorable Mention, leads the league in rebounds per game. Germany also leads the team in blocks with 11 which places him fourth amongst his C-USA peers.

JUCO newcomer guards Japhet Medor and John Buggs III round out the top offensive players for the Roadrunners. Medor is averaging 11.8 points per game and leads the team in assists, having tallied 39 to date. Medor is third in C-USA in free throws made, having 43, and making 16 in the PVAMU game earlier this season. Buggs makes up the other half of the dynamic backcourt posting an average of 9.6 points per game. Buggs is shooting a team-high 40.4% from deep and has knocked down a triple in all ten games on the year. Buggs totes the fourth-best three-point shooting percentage in the league.

Sharpshooters DJ Richards and Isaiah Addo-Ankrah are the remaining top minute-getters on the team and have made the second and third most threes on the team respectively. Richards, like Buggs, has made a three-pointer in all ten contests this season. Richards is third on the team in rebounding while Addo-Ankrah is second on the team in assists. Richards owns the fifth-best three-point percentage in the league and won the C-USA Freshman of the Week last week for his performance against New Mexico.

Overall, the Roadrunners are shooting 40.7 percent as a team from the field and holding foes to 41.6 percent. UTSA averages 69.2 points, 36.8 rebounds, 11.9 assists, 4.1 steals and 3.6 blocks per game as a team.

Scouting the Wildcats
Bethune-Cookman is led offensively by Western Kentucky transfer Zion Harmon who is averaging a flat 13 points per game in the Wildcats' 10 games so far this season. Also averaging double-digit points is backcourt mate Marcus Garrett who chips in 12 a contest.

Dylan Robertson and Garrett lead the way for B-CU on the glass as each is averaging a shade over five rebounds a game. Garrett and Harmon not only put the ball in the cup but are also the team's top two assist men.

Overall, the Wildcats are shooting 42.1 percent as a team from the field and holding foes to 44.9 percent. Bethune-Cookman averages 65.7 points, 33.1 rebounds, 12.1 assists, 8.2 steals and 3.1 blocks per game as a team.
