SAN ANTONIO – UTSA saw its three-game win streak snapped Friday evening, as the Roadrunners fell to the Grambling State Tigers 75-55 in the first game of the 210 San Antonio Shootout presented by Drury Hotels.
The Roadrunners (4-2) saw a five-game home winning streak that dated back to last season broken by the Tigers (3-2) who blitzed UTSA early, claiming a 22-4 lead and never relinquishing it.
Japhet Medor led the Roadrunners in scoring, dropping in 12 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists. Jacob Germany went for eight points and a team-high 13 boards while Isaiah Addo-Ankrah chipped in six points and John Buggs III tallied five. No other Roadrunner recorded more than one made field goal.
The Rundown
Grambling State scored first and never looked back as the Tigers held the lead for the entire game, with the only tie being 0-0 at the very beginning of the game. GSU found itself with a 7-2 lead at the first media timeout and saw that lead grow to 16-4 by the under-12. With just under four minutes to go in the first, Grambling had its largest lead of the half, sitting comfortably up 33-11. UTSA didn't fold though as they closed the first half on an 8-2 run to enter halftime down just 16.
Grambling State rebounded from the late first-half run by the Roadrunners, putting together a strong opening to the second, pushing its lead to as much as 23. The Tigers kept UTSA at arm's length through the remainder of the second half, eventually going on to claim the win, 75-55.
Stat of the Game
Grambling State forced 16 UTSA turnovers and was able to score 16 points off of those turnovers. The easy runouts fueled Grambling's strong first half and set the tone of the game.
