Sackett collects fourth C-USA weekly award of season

DALLAS — UTSA senior place-kicker Jared Sackett has been named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league office announced Monday.

Sackett extended his streak of consecutive field goals made to nine after going 2 for 2 in UTSA's 41-7 road win over Rice on a cold and rainy Saturday in Houston. The Fort Worth native split the uprights from 30 and 36 yards in the third quarter to help the Roadrunners clinch the C-USA regular season crown and the right to host the championship game for the second straight year.

Sackett also made all five extra-point attempts against the Owls to push his season tally to 48 without a miss. He is 17 of 21 on field goals this fall, ranking 16th nationally with 1.55 field goals per game.

This marks the eighth C-USA player of the week accolade collected by a UTSA player this season, as Frank Harris has received the offensive award four times.

Middle Tennessee quarterback Chase Cunningham earned the offensive player of the week nod and Blue Raiders' defensive back Teldrick Ross picked up the defensive honor. The C-USA Player of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.

The No. 25-ranked Roadrunners will return to action this Saturday, Nov. 26, with the regular season finale against UTEP. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Alamodome and the game will air on Stadium (CW 35 in San Antonio) and Ticket 760 AM. Tickets are available by calling or texting 210-458-UTSA (8872) or visiting ticketmaster.com.
