Roadrunners to host Panthers in third-straight home game

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's basketball program is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when it hosts the Prairie View A&M Panthers of the SWAC. Tomorrow night's game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. and the game with be streamed on CUSA.tv while being broadcast on Ticket 760 AM.
 
The Roadrunners (3-1) are off to their best start to a season since the 2012-13 campaign and are looking to 4-1 for the first time since 2010. Tuesday night's game will be UTSA's final tune-up before its MTE tournament that will begin later this weekend. The Roadrunners are currently riding a four-game home win streak that dates back to the tail end of the 2021-22 season.
 
The Panthers (3-1) enter Tuesday night's contest having just dropped their first game of the season at UT Martin on Sunday, 80-79. PVAMU earned a solid victory earlier this season, downing Washington State of the Pac-12, 70-59 as a part of the Pac-12/SWAC Legacy Series.
 
Leading the Roadrunners
UTSA has been led on offense by fourth-year big man Jacob Germany who is averaging a team-high 12.5 points per contest. Germany, a 2021-22 Conference USA All-Conference Honorable Mention, adds 4.3 rebounds per game to go along with 1.3 blocks per game.
 
Newcomers have been consistently present in UTSA's success this season as three of the top five contributors are in their first season with the Roadrunners. John Buggs III is second on the team in points per game (10.0) and is stroking it to 41.7% from beyond the arc. Fellow newcomer, freshman DJ Richards, is shooting a team-high 42.9% from three-point land on 9/121 shooting. Richards averages 7.8 points per game and is the team's second-highest rebounder. Japhet Medor chips in nine points per game and averages 3.8 assists per contest to lead the team.
 
Sophomore Josh Farmer has made a leap in his second season with the Roadrunners. In the season opener, Farmer recorded a double-double with a career-high 17 points and 12 boards. He made his first career start against St. Mary's and has now started in two straight contests. Farmer leads UTSA's rebounding efforts, notching 6.5 boards a game.
 
Overall, the Roadrunners are shooting 40.7 percent as a team from the field and holding foes to 37.3 percent. UTSA averages 64 points, 41 rebounds, 11.6 assists, 5.8 steals and five blocks per game as a team.
 
Scouting Prairie View
The Panthers are led by fifth-year guard Will Douglas. The Memphis, Tenn. native has been averaging 19.3 points per game. Douglas is flanked by four other Prairie View players who are averaging double-digit points on the season. Jeremiah Gambrell (13), Yahuza Rasas (10.5), Hegel Augustin (10.3) and Kortrijk Miles (10) round out the top-scoring players for PVAMU.
 
Prairie View is shooting 48 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from beyond the arc. Panther opponents are firing at a 47% clip and are shooting 39.3 percent from the three-point line.
 
Series History
UTSA and Prairie View A&M have met seven times and the Roadrunners hold the all-time advantage, toting a 5-2 record against the Panthers. The two Texas teams last met in 2019 when the Panthers came to the Convocation Center and defeated UTSA 79-72. UTSA is 4-1 against the Panthers in games played in San Antonio.
 
Up Next
UTSA will next be in action this weekend as it is set to host a Thanksgiving holiday MTE, the 210 San Antonio Shootout presented by Drury Hotels. The MTE will feature three schools besides the Roadrunners as Dartmouth, Grambling State and UIW will also be competing. The tournament's first action will get underway on Friday, Nov. 25 with Dartmouth facing UIW at 5 p.m. and UTSA hosting Grambling State at 7:30 p.m.
