Roadrunners move up leaderboard on day two of Saint Mary’s Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Led by a 1-under-par round from Jack Wehman, the UTSA men's golf team moved up the leaderboard on the second day of the Saint Mary's Invitational on Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course (par 71/7,091 yards).

One day after posting an even-par 71, Wehman recorded five birdies en route to a season-best 70 to help the Roadrunners post a 10-over 294 and climb up three spots in the team standings into sole possession of ninth place with 18 holes left to play on Wednesday. UTSA is two strokes behind Washington State and two shots ahead of Northern Illinois in the 16-team field.

Wehman wrote down a birdie-four on his first hole of the day, the 527-yard, par-5 10th. The sophomore out of Austin then reeled off three straight pars before a birdie on the 14th, followed by back-to-back pars and then a birdie on the 196-yard, par-3 17th. He closed out a 2-under 33 on that side with a bogey on the 18th before moving to the front, where he added a pair of birdies to finish with a 1-under par scorecard. He is tied for sixth place at 1-under 141, five shots off the pace of 6-under 136 set by San Diego's David Rauch and Fresno State's Matthew Manganello.

Hunter Bott is the next-highest Roadrunner in the individual standings, as the senior has settled into a share of 42nd at 7-over 149. After opening with a 73, the Montgomery native posted a 76 on Tuesday that featured three birdies.

David Harrison bounced back from a 78 on Monday with a 74 in the second round, and the senior from Trophy Club is knotted with three other golfers in a tie for 63rd at 10-over 152.

Christian Fanfelle is one shot back in a tie for 67th at 11-over 153 (73-80) and Brayden Bare rounds out the UTSA lineup in 73rd (81-74—155).

San Diego leads the team race at 6-under, followed by 18th-ranked Colorado State (+4), Loyola Marymount (+6), Santa Clara (+6), Fresno State (+10) and Saint Mary's (+10).

The final round is scheduled for Wednesday.
