LAS VEGAS — Former UTSA standout place-kicker Hunter Duplessis was selected by the Houston Roughnecks this week in the XFL Draft for the 2023 season.
Duplessis was taken with the fifth pick in the first round of the Specialists portion of the draft. He was a two-time first-team all-conference performer for the Roadrunners in 2020-21, as well as an honorable mention All-American and a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award in 2020.
Duplessis, an Academic All-American and two-time C-USA Football Scholar Athlete of the Year, set numerous UTSA records including single-season (24) and career (50) field goals. He ranked sixth nationally in 2021 with a league-best 1.71 field goals per game and was sixth among FBS players in points scored. He received a rookie mini-camp invitation from the Denver Broncos in May.
The XFL season will kick off Feb. 18, 2023.
