SAN ANTONIO – UTSA freshman Ava Camacho has earned All-Conference USA honors, as voted on by league members, it was announced by the conference on Thursday. Camacho is the first Roadrunner to be honored with a postseason award since 2019.
Camacho, a Lucas, Texas native, became the first Roadrunner to earn postseason recognition since both Kara Teal (first team) and Bianca Ejesieme (freshman team) did so in 2019. Camacho is just the sixth Roadrunner to win earn Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors.
As a true freshman, Camacho was the lone Roadrunner to appear in all 100 sets the Roadrunners played this season. Beginning the year as a defensive specialist, Camacho transitioned to the team's main libero once Mia Ybarra was lost for the year with injury.
As the team's libero, Camacho recorded the fifth most digs in the conference, tallying 434 total and averaging 4.34 digs a set. Camacho set the five-set standard for in C-USA, as the freshman recorded both a 40-dig match (vs. FAU) and a 39-dig match (vs. McNeese), which are the most in a single match by any player in the conference. Camacho also had a 31-dig match (vs. UIW) in four sets, the most of any Conference USA player in a four-set match.
Besides the impressive dig numbers, Camacho finished the 2022 campaign with 75 assists, 13 service aces and 13 total points.
