SAN ANTONIO – UTSA will kick off a six-game homestand on Monday evening as it welcomes cross-town foe St. Mary's to the Convocation Center. Tomorrow night's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on CUSA.tv and broadcast on Ticket 760 AM.
UTSA (1-1) will look to get back in the win column after dropping its last game on the road. The Roadrunners will not play another home game until Dec. 10 and have five more home games scheduled for the month of November. UTSA and St. Mary's (0-2) will meet for the second consecutive season after going 19 seasons without playing one another (2002-2021).
UTSA has had young bright spots through its first two games, as sophomore Josh Farmer had a career-high double-double in the season opener while freshman DJ Richards poured in a team-high 14 points in the Roadrunners' last matchup.
Leading the Roadrunners
UTSA has been led by big men Jacob Germany and Josh Farmer, with the pair each averaging 12 and 9.5 points per game respectively. Germany, a 2021-22 Conference USA All-Conference Honorable Mention, adds 4.5 rebounds per game while Farmer has a team-leading 8.5. Japhet Medor leads the team in assists, averaging five dimes a game.
UTSA has gotten solid production from its perimeter players as Medor averages seven points while DJ Richards chips in 8.5 per game. Richards leads the team in shooting from beyond the arc as the freshman marksman is shooting at a 41% clip on the season.
Overall, the Roadrunners are shooting 37.8 percent as a team from the field and holding foes to 39.1 percent. UTSA averages 64.5 points, 44 rebounds, 15 assists, eight steals and six blocks per game as a team.
Scouting the Rattlers
St. Mary's has opened the season by dropping a pair of games at the South Regional Crossover, falling to both the Colorado School of Mines and Regis [Colo.]. Caleb Jordan averages 21.5 points and three rebounds per game, with Tyler Caron sports 11 points and five boards per game.
The Rattlers are shooting 37.6 percent as a team while their opponents are shooting 49 percent from the field.
Series History
UTSA holds a 10-3 advantage over the Rattlers, having just met last season. In last year's matchup, UTSA emerged with the win, defeating St. Mary's 75-65. Despite meeting 13 times, this will be just the third instance that UTSA will host St. Mary's. UTSA is 3-0 in games between the two schools held at the Convocation Center.
