SAN ANTONIO — Fresh off their best conference finishes in years, the UTSA cross country teams will travel to Bryan-College Station to race in the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday, Nov. 11, at Watts Cross Country Course.
The women's 6,000-meter run will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men's 10k at 9:30 a.m. This will mark UTSA's third time to compete on this course this season.
The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, held Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
The Roadrunners are coming off strong performances at the Conference USA Championships two weeks ago in Denton, Texas.
Led by a pair of top-20 finishes, the UTSA men finished fifth at the league meet. Colton Stunkard crossed in 15th place with an 8k time of 25:02.3 and Jake Smith was 18th in 25:19.1, as both earned third-team all-conference honors in guiding the men to their best team finish since a runner-up effort at the 2011 Southland Conference Championships.
Meanwhile, Luzaan De Wit, Madi Henry and Abby Balli finished in the top 30 to lead the women to sixth place for their best league finish since winning the 2013 C-USA crown.
De Wit covered the 6k loop in a time of 22:52.4 for 27th. Henry was right behind her teammate in 28th with a 22:56.9 clocking, while Balli crossed 29th in 22:57.6.
