DALLAS — UTSA senior place-kicker Jared Sackett has been named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced Monday.
Sackett was 3 for 3 on field goals and made all three extra-point attempts to help lead the Roadrunners to a 44-38 double-overtime victory over UAB on Saturday. The Lou Groza Award watch list member split the uprights from 29 and 31 yards before drilling a 46-yarder, all in the second quarter, to help UTSA build a 16-10 halftime lead. Sackett's PAT in the first overtime following a touchdown catch by Tykee Ogle-Kellogg sent the contest to a second OT. The Fort Worth native is 12 of 16 on field goals this season and he ranks fourth in C-USA and 30th nationally with 1.33 field goals per game.
Sackett also was tabbed C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week after the Houston and Western Kentucky games. This marks the seventh C-USA player of the week accolade collected by a UTSA player this season, as Frank Harris has received the offensive award four times.
WKU quarterback Austin Reed earned the offensive player of the week nod and Louisiana Tech defensive back Myles Brooks picked up the defensive honor. The C-USA Player of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.
Winners of six straight games, the Roadrunners — 7-2 overall and bowl eligible for the third consecutive year — have sole possession of first place in C-USA with a 5-0 league mark. UTSA will host Louisiana Tech this Saturday, Nov. 12, for the annual Military Appreciation Game. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Alamodome and the game will air on ESPN+ and Ticket 760 AM. Tickets are available by calling or texting 210-458-UTSA (8872) or visiting goutsa.com/tickets.
