FORT WORTH, Texas — UTSA senior Frank Harris on Tuesday was named to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2022, marking the third consecutive year he has been chosen for the list.
Harris is one of 40 FBS players picked for the QB Class of 2022 and now is eligible to be selected as a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.
Through eight games this fall, Harris has completed 206 of 299 passes (68.9%) for 2,538 yards and 17 touchdowns, leading UTSA to a 6-2 record and first place in Conference USA with a 4-0 mark. A Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist last season, he also has rushed for 319 yards and five scores on 71 attempts in 2022. He owns five 300-yard passing games this season and has been named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week four times.
Harris, who is 26-10 as UTSA's starting QB, owns more than 30 school records, including career marks for passing yards (7,831), passing touchdowns (75), completion percentage (.668), rushing yards by a QB (1,539) and total offense (9,370).
With today's announcement, the Davey O'Brien Fan Vote is also underway on the award's three social media accounts — Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. To participate in the Fan Vote, fans must like the original post highlighting the quarterback on the official @DaveyOBrien social media channels. Each of the three rounds of the selection process (semifinalist, finalist and winner) will feature the Fan Vote, with vote totals reset prior to each round. The top five vote getters on each of the three social media platforms will receive bonus committee votes which will be added to the ballots cast by the National Selection Committee.
The Davey O'Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O'Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.2 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O'Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrien.org.
