UTSA takes a 2-1 loss to Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, La. – The Roadrunners led the match offensively but a penalty kick goal by the Lady Techsters was the deciding factor as UTSA took a 2-1 loss to Louisiana Tech on Thursday night at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.

The Roadrunners led the Lady Techsters by 21 shots (12 on net) to 14 shots (four on target) through the entire match. UTSA earned seven corner kicks, while La Tech was awarded five corners. Anna Sutter led the Roadrunners with four shots (two on goal).

Through the first half, the Roadrunners commanded the pitch as they recorded 11 shots (eight on goal) and four corner kicks. The Lady Techsters countered with four shots (two on net) and a corner kick.

Louisiana Tech broke through first as Maci Geltmeier scored in the ninth minute to give the Lady Techsters a 1-0 lead early. This triggered an offensive explosion from the Roadrunners. In the next 30 or so minutes, UTSA fired off nine shots, while holding to two during that span.

In the 42nd minute, UTSA was awarded a free kick. Kendall Kloza took the free kick and launched it into the box, where an army of Roadrunners were waiting. Kloza's kick was deflected off the goalkeeper. Savannah Powell got a shot on goal in, but it was once again saved. Deja Sandoval then put it away to tie the match up at 1-1. The last few minutes didn't consist of much offensive action as the teams went to halftime tied at 1-1.

The second half of the match was even offensively as both teams fired off 10 shots each. The first 10 minutes of the second half saw a battle for possession as Louisiana Tech recorded three shots and UTSA countered with two of their own. In the 56th minute, the Lady Techsters won a penalty kick call, taking advantage of the opportunity to take a 2-1 lead. The Roadrunners fired off eight more shots through the rest of the match, while Louisiana Tech recorded seven more shots. Despite more than half of UTSA's shots being on goal, the Roadrunners fell, 2-1, to Louisiana Tech.

UTSA's record now sits at 6-4-3 overall (1-2-2 in C-USA action), while Louisiana Tech's overall record improves to 4-7-3 (2-2-2 in C-USA).
