Women’s Tennis Makes Great Strides at Bearkat Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The UTSA women's tennis team had a successful weekend at the Bearkat Invitational on Oct. 28-30, highlighted by the duo of Fatima Gutierrez/Magda Tuells winning their doubles flight bracket. 
 
BEARKAT INVITATIONAL
In singles flight A, Fatima Gutierrez defeated SHSU's Paula Cerda in three sets by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. Gutierrez then fought hard but ultimately fell to SFA's Ksenia Mamontova by 7-5, 2-6, 11-13. In the same flight, Lexie Weir defeated TJC's Zoi Spyrou by set scores of 7-5, 3-6, and 10-5, before falling to SHSU's Megan Basson in two sets of 6-4 and 6-3. 
 
In singles flight B, Magda Tuells defeated Northwestern State's Renske Ubachs by set scores of 6-4 and 6-1. Advancing to the second round, where she fell to SHSU's Andjela Vidovic by set scores of 6-1, 4-6, and 10-7. In the same flight, Adeliya Mukhutdinova fell to Lamar's Ana Jolic in the first round by both set scores of 6-2. In the semifinal losers bracket, Tuells defeated SHSU's Sahiti Vutukuru by two set scores of 6-2 to take third place in the flight B bracket. 
 
In the flight C bracket, Eva Beyebach fell to TJC's Yeva Kramarova by double set scores of 6-3, sending her to the consolation bracket. In the consolation bracket, Beyebach defeated SHSU's Anastasiia Khokhlova by set scores of 6-4 and 7-5, before she fell to SHSU's Vianne Schwab in the consolation final round by 6-3, 7-6 (8).
 
In the singles flight D, Stanislava Bobrovnikova battled through three sets but ultimately fell to TJC's Beyza Yaniklar in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 10-5. 
 
In the doubles flight A, Mukhutdinova/Weir defeated Northwestern State's Gig Kanaphuet/Ubachs by 7-5, before falling to SHSU's Basson/Cerda, 6-2, to take second place in the bracket. In flight B, the duo of Gutierrez and Tuells defeated TJC's Kramarova/Yeva Kononovych by 6-3. The duo then went on to defeat Lamar's Noelia Lorca and Femke Tjon A-Joe by 6-1 to win the flight. In the final doubles flight C, Beyebach/Bobrovnikova fell to SHSU's Khokhlova/Vidocic by 6-3.

The Roadrunners are set to conclude their fall schedule as the team heads to San Diego, Calif., for the SDSU Classic #2 next week on Nov. 11-13.
