HOUSTON – Four members of the UTSA men's tennis program wrapped up their fall competition this past weekend in Houston at the Rice Fall Challenge.
Tomás Pinho, Garrett Skelly, Danijal Muminovic, Miguel Alonso all competed over the weekend against foes from Rice, SMU and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the dual format tournament. With the tournament being a dual format, the Roadrunners found themselves partnered up with other schools throughout the weekend.
The Roadrunners struggled in the first day of action, dropping all four of its doubles matches. The first session saw UTSA face BYU in two doubles matches and later in the day the Roadrunners faced SMU.

UTSA bounced back on Friday as two of its four student-athletes picked up wins in singles action. Alonso was able to earn the Roadrunners' first win of the weekend, defeating Eduardo Morias of Rice in two sets. Muminovic then beat Redd Owen of BYU in three sets to put the Roadrunners at 2-2 for the day.

UTSA's four student-athletes matched up with Rice on Saturday, meeting the Owls in four singles matches. The fellow Conference USA school got the better of UTSA, sweeping the four matches.

Wes Barnett (Rice) def. Skelly [6-3, 3-6, 6-2]
Trinity Grear (Rice) def. Muminovic [3-6, 6-1, 6-3]
Kabeer Kapasi (Rice) def. Alonso [3-6, 6-3, 7-6]
The Roadrunners finished the event strong, winning all four of their final four events on Sunday afternoon. Muminovic and Alonso got the day started winning singles matches over two SMU players while the duo of Alonso/Pinho beat Rice (8-7) to cap the competition.

Up Next: The duo of Alan Magadan and Sebastian Rodriguez will head to San Diego, California to compete in the ITA Fall Nationals which take place from Nov. 2-6. The pair clinched an appearance after downing the No. 3 doubles team in the country in TCU at the ITA Texas Regionals. The Championships are the grand finale of the fall collegiate tennis season and feature 64 of the nation's top collegiate singles players (32 men and 32 women) and 64 doubles teams (32 men's teams and 32 women's teams).
