SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer team is set to conclude regular season play as the Roadrunners host UTEP on Friday at Park West Athletics Complex. The Title IX/Set The Expectation match will be streamed on CUSA.tv and Stadium+ with a kickoff at 7 p.m. (CT).
The Roadrunners hold a 8-5-4 overall record (3-3-3 in C-USA play) after a 1-0 win over WKU last Sunday, Oct. 23. UTSA has collected 12 points towards Conference USA standings, currently sitting in sixth place and clinching a spot in the Conference USA Tournament.
The Roadrunners are coming off a 1-0 win over WKU on Sunday, Oct. 23, in which they outshot the Lady Toppers by 11 shots (four on target) to five shots (two on net). In the eight minute, the very first shot of the match made it to the back of the net as Sasjah Dade fired it in, off an assist by Kendall Kloza, to give UTSA the 1-0 advantage.
LEADING THE ROADRUNNERS
Nationally, UTSA ranks in the top-50 in two categories, including 29th in assists per game (2.12) and 23rd in total assists (36). The team is second in the Conference USA with 256 shots, 98 points, 31 goals and 36 assists. The Roadrunners have allowed the second-least goals (15) in the conference through 17 matches. As a team, the Roadrunners have outshot their opponents by 256 shots to 128 shots through the season so far.
Singh leads the team with 40 shots (16 on goal) and 18 points (six goals and six assists), starting in all 17 matches. In the nation, Singh has the 77th-most total assists. Preseason Conference Team selection Anna Sutter trails her with 11 points, consisting of three goals and five assists.
Sasjah Dade was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30. Although she is a defender by trade, Dade has contributed greatly on offense as she has 11 points consisting of four goals and three assists. She is first in the conference with three game-winning goals. Defensively, she has an impressive 77 percent of defensive challenges won and 83 percent successful tackles.
The defensive line of Dade, Deja Sandoval, Kendall Kloza and Sabrina Hillyer have played integral roles in the Roadrunners only allowing 15 goals and recording five shutouts through the first 16 matches, accounting for 5,405 minutes combined.
SERIES HISTORY
In the all-time series, UTSA has 1-8-2 record against the UTEP Miners. The teams last played each other on Sept. 24, 2021, when the Roadrunners fell to the Miners, 1-0. Abby Kassal led the team with five shots, including three on goal, while Jil Schneider made two saves.
SCOUTING THE MINERS
UTEP is coming off a 1-0 loss to North Texas on Sunday, Oct. 23 to bring their overall record to 4-10-3 (1-6-2 in Conference USA play), currently sitting in ninth place with five points in the conference standings. The Miners were picked to finish last out of 11 teams in the C-USA, based on the preseason conference coaches' poll.
Tessa Carlin leads the Miners with 17 shots (nine on goal) and 10 points consisting of four goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Mariah Scott has recorded 76 saves and allowed 26 goals in 17 starts.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners head to Charlotte, N.C., for the Conference USA Tournament on Nov. 2-6. The seeding and matchups are to be determined as teams conclude their final regular season matches.
