Bott guides Roadrunners to sixth place at The Clerico

TULSA, Okla. — Hunter Bott finished in the top 15 individuals to lead the UTSA men's golf team to sixth place at the The Clerico, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Oaks Country Club (par 71/7,000 yards).

Bott tied for 13th with a 4-over-par 146 to guide the Roadrunners to a 592 (292-300) in the tournament that was shortened to 36 holes due to weather on Monday. UTSA ended up five shots ahead of Kansas City and six ahead of a tie for eighth between Missouri State and Northern Iowa in the 12-team field won by South Alabama (580).

After opening with a 1-under 70 on Monday, Bott posted a 76 that was highlighted by a birdie on the 364-yard, par-4 first hole. The senior from Montgomery finished with five birdies for the event and was only one stroke out of the top 10 in the 71-man field.

Christian Fanfelle fired a 74 on the strength of a pair of birdies in the final round to move up five places into a share of 24th at 7-over par. The senior from San Antonio carded a 75 for the first 18 holes and matched Bott with a team-high five birdies this week.

David Harrison tied for 30th with an 8-over 150. The senior out of Byron Nelson High School in the Metroplex posted a 71 on Monday before settling for a 79 in the final round.

Brayden Bare paced the Roadrunners in the final round with a 2-over 73 that included birdies on the 388-yard, par-4 second and 133-yard, par-3 sixth holes. That marked a six-shot improvement from his first-round scorecard for the freshman from Waco, as he ended up in a tie for 41st at 10-over 152.

Jack Wehman rounded out the lineup one shot back in a tie for 45th at 11-over 153 (76-77).

The Roadrunners will return to action on Oct. 31-Nov. 2 when they travel to Pebble Beach, California, for the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
