SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer team is set to host WKU for their senior day on Sunday afternoon. The match will be streamed on C-USA.tv at 1 p.m. (CT) at Park West Athletics Complex.
The Roadrunners will honor five seniors at the conclusion of the match - Jil Schneider, Kendall Kloza, Lexi Bolton, Abby Kassal and Isa Hernandez. The match will also be Cantober, featuring inflatables, candy and goodies. This event will be set up starting at 12 p.m. (one hour before kickoff). Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to receive a Whataburger coupon.
The Roadrunners hold a 7-5-4 overall record (2-3-3 in C-USA play) after a 3-1 loss to North Texas last Sunday, Oct. 17. UTSA has collected nine points towards Conference USA standings, currently sitting in seventh place. The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season make it into the Conference USA Tournament.
The Roadrunners are coming off a 3-1 loss to North Texas on Oct. 17 in Denton, Texas. UTSA outshot the Mean Green by 11 shots to 10 shots, but North Texas had the upper hand with six shots on goal to UTSA's four shots on goal. Kiran Singh scored the Roadrunners' lone goal, a penalty kick goal to tie the match in the 32nd minute, but UNT scored two more to take the matchup.
LEADING THE ROADRUNNERS
Nationally, UTSA ranks in the top-50 in four different categories, including 25th in assists per game (2.19), 50th in points per game (5.94), 20th in total assists (35) and 41st in total points (95). The team is second in the Conference USA with 245 shots, 95 points, 30 goals and 35 assists. The Roadrunners have allowed the second-least goals (15) in the conference through 16 matches. As a team, the Roadrunners have outshot their opponents by 245 shots to 123 shots through the season so far.
Singh leads the team with 38 shots (18 on goal) and 18 points (six goals and five assists), starting in all 16 matches. In the nation, Singh has the 77th-most total assists. Preseason Conference Team selection Anna Sutter trails her with 11 points, consisting of three goals and five assists.
Sasjah Dade was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30. Although she is a defender by trade, Dade has contributed greatly on offense as she has nine points consisting of three goals and three assists. She is fourth in the conference with two game-winning goals. Defensively, she has an impressive 77 percent of defensive challenges won and 83 percent successful tackles.
The defensive line of Dade, Deja Sandoval, Kendall Kloza and Sabrina Hillyer have played integral roles in the Roadrunners only allowing 15 goals and recording five shutouts through the first 16 matches, accounting for 5,061 minutes combined.
SERIES HISTORY
In the all-time series, UTSA has 0-4 record against the WKU Lady Toppers. The teams last played each other on Oct. 19, 2017, when the Roadrunners fell to the Lady Toppers, 3-1. Then-freshman Isa Hernandez came in off the bench and played 35 minutes in the match.
SCOUTING THE LADY TOPPERS
WKU is coming off a 1-0 loss to Rice on Thursday to bring their overall record to 6-7-3 (3-4-1 in Conference USA play), currently sitting in sixth place with 10 points in the conference standings. The Lady Toppers were picked to finish second out of 11 teams in the C-USA, based on the preseason conference coaches' poll. Ambere Barnett, Katie Erwin and Lyric Schmidt were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
Kayla Meyer leads the Lady Toppers with 25 shots (12 on goal) and seven points consisting of three goals and one assist. Alexis Bach has collected 42 saves and allowed 10 goals in 15 starts at goalkeeper.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners close out the regular season at home, hosting the Miners of UTEP next Friday, Oct. 28. The Title IX/Set The Expectation match is set for 7 p.m. (CT) at Park West Athletics Complex.
