UTSA falls in Sunday match to Louisiana Tech

SAN ANTONIO – Kelsey Carpenter tallied eleven kills and Mekaila Aupiu had 27 assists, but it wasn't enough as the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters left San Antonio with a 3-0 victory over UTSA on Sunday afternoon.

UTSA (6-9, 1-2) dropped its second Conference USA game of the young season as it fell it in three straight sets to Louisiana Tech (8-10, 2-2). The Lady Techsters snapped a two-game skid in San Antonio as it earned its third three-set victory of the season.

First Set (La Tech: 36-34: UTSA)
Louisiana Tech controlled the early momentum of the set, eventually going up 17-11. Following the Lady Techsters' largest lead of the set, UTSA called timeout and began to rally. UTSA used a 10-4 run out of the timeout to knot the set at 21-all. The Roadrunners had La Tech at set point, 24-23, but the Lady Techsters fought it off and sent the set to free volleyball. The two schools traded points back and forth, each staving off set point until eventually, La Tech claimed the first set 36-34. Cansu Günaydin led UTSA with five kills in the set while four other Roadrunners tallied three apiece.

Second Set (La Tech: 28-26: UTSA)
The second set played out similarly to the first as La Tech held the momentum and a lead throughout most of the set. UTSA trailed throughout the whole set until eventually claiming a 26-25 lead. To get there though, the Roadrunners had to rally from six down and fight off set point to eventually claim a lead. The Lady Techsters responded though and fought off a set point of their own, scoring three straight to up-end UTSA 28-26 and take a 2-0 lead. Carpenter had a set-high six kills to lead both teams.

Third Set (La Tech: 25-19: UTSA)
Louisiana Tech was able to finish off the Roadrunners in the third set, claiming a 5-4 lead early and never relinquishing it. The Roadrunners were held to just a .079 hitting percentage in the set as Louisiana Tech claimed the third and final set.
