Ellison grabbed a share of 33rd to guide the Roadrunners to a tie with Boston College and Washington State at 792 in the two-day tournament that was shortened to 45 holes due to tough weather conditions on Monday that caused the second round to be suspended due to darkness.
UTSA posted rounds of 327 and 306 before turning in a 159 in the nine-hole final round to finish two shots ahead of Notre Dame, three strokes in front of BYU and 13 better than Iowa in its first appearance in the event.
Ellison bounced back from an 82 in the opening round with a 3-over-par 75 for the second 18. The sophomore from Georgia had an eagle on the 437-yard, par-5 10th hole and also birdied Nos. 9 and 15 on that scorecard. She carded a 39 in the shortened final round to finish with a 16-over 196.
Daniela Abonce and Olivia Williams ended up in a nine-way tie for 36th place at 17-over 197.
Abonce, a freshman from Mexico, opened with an 81 before carding a 76 that was highlighted by a birdie on the 335-yard, par-4 ninth, followed by a 40 in the final round.
Williams, a freshman out of England, paced UTSA in the first round with a 79 and then turned in a 78 behind a pair of birdies before closing with a 40 on Tuesday.
