UTSA to hold food drive sponsored by Whataburger on Saturday at North Texas game

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will hold its 11th annual food drive sponsored by Whataburger this Saturday, Oct. 22, at the home football game against North Texas, which is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Alamodome.

Whataburger and UTSA are excited to host the annual food drive to help the San Antonio Food Bank. Donations can be made in Rowdy Town beginning at noon or to Whataburger and San Antonio Food Bank representatives who will visit the tailgating areas of Lots B & C. Every dollar donated provides the equivalent of seven meals for those in need. All donations will be given to the San Antonio Food Bank.

"We believe no one should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from," said Michael Miller, Whataburger Market Leader. "That's why Whataburger is proud to continue our partnership with UTSA to help hunger relief in our hometown. This is a part of Whataburger's Feeding Student Success program, which focuses on getting children the nourishment they need so they may reach their full potential."

UTSA's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will also host its annual CANtoberfest beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23. The event features SAAC's annual food drive, as well as fall festival-style activities hosted by UTSA student-athletes. This year's event will take place at both Park West Athletics Complex prior to UTSA's soccer match and at the Convocation Center prior to the UTSA volleyball match. SAAC will collect non-perishable food items benefitting the Whataburger Resource Room as well as accept online donations benefitting the San Antonio Food Bank.

According to the San Antonio Food Bank, nearly one out of every four children and one out of every five adults in Southwest Texas is food insecure and has difficulty meeting basic nutritional needs. One hundred thousand individuals are receiving assistance from the San Antonio Food Bank which is 10,000 more than last year. UTSA and Whataburger are proud to help fight hunger and encourage fans to donate the gift of food for those in need.
