Duo of Magadan and Rodriguez claim ITA Texas Regional Championship

WACO, Texas – The UTSA men's tennis program had a historic week at the ITA Texas Regionals, capped by the doubles team of Alan Magadan and Sebastian Rodriguez claiming the ITA Regional Championship after defeating the #3 doubles team in the country from TCU (6-3, 6-3).

The Roadrunner tandem of Magadan and Rodriguez defeated three nationally ranked doubles (#24 Texas A&M, #13 Baylor and #3 TCU) teams on their way to winning the championship match.

The victory makes Magadan and Rodriguez the first student-athletes from the men's tennis program to win an ITA Regional.

"This is absolutely amazing for the program. It was the first time in school history we made the final and to win it is even bigger, said head coach Sergey Avdeyev. He continued, "Our guys did not hesitate and were ready. We played the third-ranked team in the country. Our energy level was there from the beginning. All the credit goes to our guys how they started the match, it was clean tennis from both of them. Shout out to our coaching staff for all their work. It truly was a team win."

Up Next: UTSA will compete in the Rice Fall Challenge over the Oct. 28-30 weekend. The competition will be held in Houston on the Rice campus.
