DALLAS – The UTSA women's tennis team completed its second tournament of the fall season at SMU's Red and Blue Challenge this weekend.
DAY 1
In the red doubles bracket, Aleksandra Zlatarova and Magda Tuells fell to North Texas' Jasmine Adams and Olivia Malm by a score of 6-1. In the second round, the duo of Zlatarova and Tuells put together a 6-4 victory over UT-Arlington's Liz Chileno and Tara Gorinsek. In blue doubles, the pair of Lexie Weir and Adeliya Mukhutdinova defeated Butler's Natalie Boesing and Chase Metcalf by a score of 7-6 (6). In the next round, Weir and Mukhutdinova fell to SMU's Winslow Huth and Lana Marvor, 6-1.
In the red singles bracket, Zlatarova fell to SMU's Jackie Nylander by scores of 6-4, 6-2 in round one. In blue singles, Lexie Weir took TCU's Destinee Martins to three sets, losing the first set by a score of 3-6, then winning the second set by 6-3, but ultimately falling in the third set by 6-10. In purple singles, Tuells fell to TCU's Jade Otway by scores of 7-5, 6-4. In yellow singles, Mukhutdinova defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Kateryna Rublevska by 6-4, 6-2.
DAY 2
In red doubles, the duo of Zlatarova and Tuells defeated Abilene Christian's Olivia Sears and Masha Vrsalovic, 6-1. In the blue doubles semifinal east bracket, the matching of Weir and Mukhutdinova fell to TCU's Jade and Margaret Polk, 6-4.
In red singles, Zlatarova went head-to-head with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Emma Aucagne, falling 7-5 in the first set, winning the second set by 6-3 but falling 10-8 in the final set. In blue singles, Weir defeated Abilene Christian's Maryjoe Crisologo by scores of 6-1, 6-2. In purple singles, Tuells lost to North Texas' Matilde Morais, 6-1 and 6-2. In yellow singles, Mukhutdinova fell to North Texas' Malm by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
DAY 3
In the red singles semifinal west bracket, Zlatarova faced off with TCU's Yu-Chin Tsai for three sets, defeating her in the first set by a score of 6-4, but falling in the last two sets by scores of 6-3 and 11-9. In blue singles, Weir defeated UT-Arlington's Tara Gorinsek in a three-set battle, winning the first one by a score of 7-5, falling in the second set by 6-3, but bouncing back to win the last set by 10-1. In purple singles, Tuells fell to UT-Arlington's Ana Paula Jimenez by scores of 7-3, 6-1. In yellow singles, Mukhutdinova fell to TCU's Polk by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
UP NEXT
The Roadrunners are set to head south to compete in the Islander Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Oct. 21-23.
