DENTON, Texas – The UTSA soccer team concluded its final road match of the regular season as the Roadrunners fell, 3-1, to North Texas on Sunday afternoon at UNT's Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
"I'm really proud of our team today," head coach Derek Pittman said. "We competed extremely hard and created some quality chances. Unfortunately, we were punished for our errors and didn't finish the opportunities we had. By no means are we satisfied with this performance and we will continue to progress from here as we prepare for a quality WKU team on Sunday!"
The Roadrunners outshot the Mean Green by 11 shots (four on target) to 10 shots (six on goal), but North Texas led UTSA with six corner kicks by four corners. Anna Sutter led UTSA with four shots (three on net). Kiran Singh scored her sixth goal of the season.
In the first half, the Roadrunners dominated the pitch with nine shots and three corner kicks to the Mean Green's six shots and one corner. UTSA started off the match strong as Sarina Russ and Kendall Kloza both fired off a shot each within the first minute of action. North Texas took the early advantage in the fifth minute as forward Allie Byrd scored off an assist by Madi Starrett. The Roadrunners tied it up at 1-1 in the 32nd minute as Kiran Singh took advantage of a penalty kick that was awarded to UTSA after a foul on North Texas' defender Mia Merritt. About four minutes later, the Mean Green took advantage of a chance in the box as Kat Burnell sank one to give North Texas a 2-1 lead, a score the teams would take to halftime.
Through the second 45 minutes of action, the Mean Green picked up the pace as they were awarded five corner kicks and four shots while the Roadrunners countered with one corner and two shots. In the 60th minute, North Texas extended its advantage to 3-1 as Olivia Klein found the back of the net. In the last 30 minutes, UTSA fired off another shot on goal and the Mean Green countered with two shots but the Roadrunners fell, 3-1, to North Texas on Sunday afternoon.
UTSA's record sits at 7-5-4 overall (2-3-3 in C-USA action), while North Texas' overall record improves to 9-5-2 (5-2-1 in C-USA). As of the current conference standings, the Roadrunners sit in seventh place while the Mean Green sit in third place. The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season make it into the Conference USA Tournament.

The Roadrunners return home to host WKU on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. (CT) at Park West Athletics Complex. Five seniors (Jil Schneider, Kendall Kloza, Lexi Bolton, Abby Kassal and Isa Hernandez) will be honored for Senior Day at this match. It will also be the Homecoming and Cantober match.
