Fanfelle posts top-20 finish at William H. Tucker Intercollegiate

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Christian Fanfelle tied for 18th place to lead the UTSA men's golf team to a tie for 14th at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which concluded on Saturday at UNM Championship Course (par 72/7,546 yards).
 
Fanfelle carded a 1-under-par 215 to lead the Roadrunners to an 889 (295-293-301), good for a share of 14th with Hawaii. UTSA finished two shots ahead of Conference USA rival North Texas and 13 in front of Northern Illinois, and the Roadrunners ended up only eight strokes out of the top 10.
 
Fanfelle turned in his second red number of the weekend in the final round, using four birdies and an eagle on the 544-yard, par-5 first hole to record a 1-under 71. He also logged a 71 in the opening round before posting a 73 on Friday afternoon en route to his second top-20 showing of the season. The senior from San Antonio ended up with 13 birdies for the week, the third-best total in the field of more than 100 players.
 
Hunter Bott finished in a tie for 41st at 5-over 221. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, opened with a 71-72—143 before registering a 78 on Saturday.
 
Carson Gallaher and Jack Wehman were part of a tie for 78th. Gallaher, a sophomore from New Braunfels, Texas, carded three consecutive 76s, while Wehman, a sophomore from Austin, turned in rounds of 77, 72 and 79.
 
David Harrison rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 91st with a 77-78-76—231.
 
San Diego State claimed the team title while Denver's Carson Griggs took home individual medalist honors (74-64-67—205).
 
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Oct. 2-4 at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas.
