UTSA back on the road for weekend tournament

The UTSA volleyball team is back in action this weekend as it again hits the road for its second straight road tournament.

The Roadrunners will be heading to Lafayette, La. To participate in the Sawyer Lincoln Camillo Memorial Classic. The tournament, hosted by Louisiana Lafayette, will also include UTRGV and North Dakota State.

UTSA will have two matches on Friday, September 2, as it starts the day with a noon matchup with UTRGV. The Roadrunners will then play again later in the afternoon when they take on North Dakota State at 4 p.m.

After two Friday matches, the Roadrunners conclude the weekend tournament with a game against tournament host Louisiana Lafayette on Saturday at noon.

None of UTSA's matches will be televised, however, you can follow along at GoUTSA.com/VBstats.

Leading the Roadrunners
Six different Roadrunners have appeared in all 10 season sets so far for the Roadrunners. Newcomer Cansu Günaydin leads the offensive charge for UTSA as the Rutgers transfer has 26 kills to her name through three matches of play.

Also turning in nice offensive performances for the Roadrunners were Alicia Coppedge (23 kills), Amanda Ifeanyi (20 kills) and Caroline Krueger (19 kills). Courtney Walters has been setting the table for UTSA, as the senior setter has tallied 52 assists through three matches. Walters also has three aces on the year, leading the team.

Mia Ybarra and Ava Camacho lead UTSA in digs, as Ybarra has 43 and Camacho has 32. Ifeanyi has also been a constant force on defense as she has a solo block as well as eight block assists on the year.

Series history
UTSA will meet UTRGV for the 41st time in program history this weekend. UTSA is 38-3 all-time against the Vaqueros. UTSA has won 123 sets against UTRGV, compared to the Vaqueros' 40 sets. As for NDSU, the Roadrunners and Bison will be meeting for the first time in either team's history. UTSA and Louisiana Lafayette will meet for the fourth time as UTSA has never lost to the Ragin' Cajuns, winning all three of the teams' previous meetings.

UP NEXT: UTSA will return to San Antonio and host not one, but two tournaments in the upcoming weeks. To start, the Roadrunners are hosting the UTSA Invitational over the Sept. 9-10 span which features McNeese State, USF and UT Arlington. Then, the following week, UTSA will again host a home tournament, this time the Roadrunner Classic. The Roadrunner Classic will be held from Sept. 16-17 and will feature Houston Baptist, Valparaiso and UIW.
