SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA cross country teams are set to open the 2022 season on Friday, Sept. 2, when they race in the UIW Twilight at McAllister Park's Classics Elite Soccer Academy.
The women's 4,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 8:50 p.m. followed by the men's 6k at 9:10 p.m.
The Roadrunners are entering their ninth season under cross country coach David Hartman, a former conference champion distance runner at UTSA in the 1990s.
UTSA welcomes back eight returnees for the women, headlined by Abby Balli, who earned her second straight medal in the mile at the Conference USA Indoor Championships this past February.
Meanwhile, nine veterans return on the men's side including Jake Smith. The Yuma, Arizona, native was UTSA's top finisher at the 2021 C-USA Cross Country Championships, placing 36th to help lead the men to an eighth-place showing.
